NAB orders inquiry into NHA affairs

Detailed inquiry against National Highway Authority (NHA) Management for their alleged corruption and corrupt practices in awarding the contract of constructing Lahore to Karachi Motorway in violations of Award of contract as per laid down laws/rules on exorbitant rates thus causing alleged loss of billions of rupees to national exchequer is been ordered by Chairman NAB Justice Javed Iqbal to DG NAB Rawalpindi.

Taking notice of misuse of authority, non-transparency and awarding the contract of constructing Lahore to Karachi Motorway on the basis of complaint and complaint verification, Chairman NAB has directed Director General NAB Rawalpindi to thoroughly conduct inquiry of the alleged allegations.

Director General NAB Rawalpindi has also been reminded NAB’s responsibility of protecting public money, resisting the squandering of public money and ensuring the proper use of public money as prescribed in laws/rules and relevant procedures.

NAB should also ensure that the public money should not be wasted or misused and people responsible for awarding the contract of Lahore to Karachi Motorway in violations of laws and rules on higher rates should be pinpointed and hence bring them to justice as per law. However, the chairman NAB has observed that the project must not be delayed due to NAB inquiry, said a press release.

In a separate press release, Chairman NHA and management has welcomed the inquiry and assured their full support to NAB claiming that the contracts awarded were transparent.
