Elektrotechnik is one of Pakistan’s leading suppliers of industrial electrical and automation solutions and an authorized distributor of Schneider Electric. Since its establishment in 1983, the company has been providing genuine Schneider Electric products and technical solutions for power distribution, industrial control, motor control, and automation applications. Serving industries ranging from cement and textiles to oil & gas, chemicals, power generation, and manufacturing, Elektrotechnik has earned a reputation for technical excellence, genuine products, and dependable customer support.
Speaking exclusively to Engineering Post, Muhammad Ali, Director Marketing and Finance, Elektrotechnik, shared the company’s journey, market dynamics, and the challenges facing Pakistan’s industrial distribution sector.
Muhammad Ali joined Elektrotechnik in 2000 while he was still pursuing his studies. “I started my career by learning the business from the ground up,” he recalled. “Initially, I handled routine responsibilities such as managing discounts and opening letters of credit (LCs) for imports. As I gained experience, I gradually took on greater responsibilities and became actively involved in the company’s marketing and financial operations.”
According to Muhammad Ali, Elektrotechnik has remained committed to a single global brand throughout its journey. “We work exclusively with Schneider Electric,” he said. “We are perhaps the only company in Pakistan dedicated solely to Schneider Electric’s complete portfolio. This exclusive focus allows us to maintain one of the largest inventories in the market, ensuring immediate availability of products ranging from the oldest legacy models to the latest technologies.”
He emphasized that maintaining such comprehensive stock enables customers to source both new and replacement products from a single supplier without unnecessary delays. “Industrial customers value reliability and availability. Our inventory strength has become one of our biggest competitive advantages,” he remarked.
Discussing market trends, Muhammad Ali observed that the industrial electrical and automation sector has changed significantly over the years. “Competition was relatively limited a few years ago, but today the market has become much more competitive,” he said. “However, competition is a double-edged sword. While it creates pressure, it also encourages companies to improve, innovate, and demonstrate their capabilities. It gives us the opportunity to prove why customers should continue to trust us.”
He noted that recent regional geopolitical tensions have further complicated business operations. “During periods of conflict, imports routed through Dubai either stop or experience significant delays,” he explained. “This disrupts supply chains and intensifies competition because every distributor has a different cost structure,”
Highlighting one of the industry’s longstanding concerns, Muhammad Ali pointed to Pakistan’s weak payment and recovery culture. “The payment and recoveries system is practically non-existent,” he stated. “Many customers obtain stock on credit, and when suppliers stop extending further credit because of outstanding dues, they simply move to another distributor without clearing their previous payments.”
He believes the industry needs greater cooperation among distributors to address this issue. “Distributors should stand united,” he suggested. “If a customer has outstanding payments with one supplier, no other distributor should provide additional stock until those dues are cleared. Such collective discipline would improve financial stability across the industry and promote responsible business practices.”
Despite these challenges, Muhammad Ali remains optimistic about the future. He believes Pakistan’s industrial sector will continue to modernize, creating greater demand for high-quality electrical and automation solutions.
