Driving Innovation with Certified Chinese Electrical Solutions
Muhammad Owais Sheikh, CEO of Hozam Electric Co. talks to Engineering Post
Hozam Electric Co. has rapidly emerged as a recognised name in Pakistan’s electrical sector, earning the confidence of customers through dependable and economical solutions. Since its establishment in 2014, the company has remained committed to supplying products that offer both high quality and competitive pricing. In an exclusive discussion with Engineering Post, Muhammad Owais Sheikh, CEO of Hozam Electric Co., shared the company’s growth story, its approach to introducing internationally certified Chinese switchgear products, and the long-term vision shaping its future.
“Hozam Electric Co. was established in 2014 with a vision to deliver reliable electrical products at competitive prices,” explained Muhammad Owais Sheikh. “Initially, our focus was on providing solutions that met the requirements of panel builders and contractors, and we built our reputation steadily on the basis of customer trust.”
A major milestone for the company came in 2020 when it expanded into the import of low-voltage switchgear products. According to Mr. Owais, this strategic decision was driven by the increasing impact of currency fluctuations. “As the dollar rate continued to rise, European products became increasingly unaffordable for a large segment of the market. This prompted us to look for alternatives in China. But we were careful to source only those products that adhered to international standards. That has been our differentiating factor, we never compromise on quality.”
Whereas many companies in the market continue to rely primarily on European imports, Hozam adopted a different strategy. By offering Chinese-manufactured products that comply with the same international standards, the company has been able to provide dependable solutions at far more competitive prices. “Our customers appreciate the balance we offer,” said Sheikh. “They get the same reliability they expect from established brands, but at a price that makes projects more feasible.”
Hozam’s portfolio covers an extensive range of products designed to meet the diverse requirements of the electrical industry. Its offerings include moulded case circuit breakers, miniature circuit breakers for both AC and DC applications, manual changeover switches, push buttons, selector switches, AC and DC surge protection devices, under and over-voltage protection systems in both single-phase and three-phase configurations, as well as automatic changeover switches for single and three-phase applications. The company also supplies a complete range of components used in switchgear panel assemblies.
“Our philosophy has always been to ensure availability and reliability,” explained Owais. “When a panel builder or contractor approaches us, they know they’ll find what they need under one roof. That convenience, combined with our strict adherence to quality, has earned us a loyal customer base.”
Looking towards the future, Muhammad Owais Sheikh aims to expand Hozam’s role beyond importing and distributing electrical products. “We don’t just want to stop at being a supplier,” he emphasized. “Our long-term vision is to work on technology transfer and gradually move into local manufacturing. Pakistan has immense potential in this sector, and developing indigenous production capabilities will not only reduce reliance on imports but also create opportunities for local employment and skill development.”
The CEO further highlighted that achieving this objective will require a gradual and carefully planned approach, although preparations are already underway. “It is a step-by-step process. We are currently in discussions with our partners and exploring ways to bring in technical expertise.
