Significant progress on CASA Project

Significant progress has been made on Central Asia South Asia (CASA) transmission project envisaging laying  of 1200 kilometers transmission lines  for import of 1300 Megawatt  from Hydel power generation from Tajikistan and Kyrgyz Republic through Afghanistan to Pakistan.

500KV HVDC  Transmission System project was approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) in August 2019 for implementation at an estimated cost of Rs 45989.000 million including foreign aid of Rs  28966.00 million.  Against this, an estimated expenditure of Rs 6912,200 million was reported to have been incurred by end June 2020.

Against throw-forward   of 39076.800 million, an allocation of Rs 3000.000 million including foreign aid of Rs  1500.000 million has been provided under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for its continued implementation during financial year 2020-21.

The parties have already signed  core power agreements including Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), Land possession has been taken and security clearance at site is in progress.
