Power division and IPPs authority

The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet has put all the balls in same court to consider a proposal of Power Division. The proposal states that the payment procedure to IPPs must be under the Power Generation Policy 2002 that should be pending till final clearance from National Accountability Bureau (NAB). As the Cabinet Committee on Energy (CCE) and ECC considered the report by the Implementation Committee, an official of NAB was also present in the ECC agreement approval meeting. The decision has been ratified by the Cabinet. Minister for Energy Omar Ayub gave a detailed perspective on the deals signed with the IPPs and its financial impact on tariff in years to come. Minister also highlighted the role of legal body vested with the authority for tariffs, Nepra will settle the matter in accordance with the 2002 Power policy, tariff determinations and will provide mechanism for recoveries, where needed.
