Orange Line trial run conducted

LAHORE: The Punjab government inaugurated the first and second trial run of the Lahore Orange Line Metro Train. Second trial run was inaugurated on 23 may from Ali Town (station no-26) to Scheme Mor (station no-18) -a stretch falling under the project`s package-1.

Since Chief Minister Shahbaz had inaugurated the first trial run of the train at package-1 on May 16, he didn`t open the second test run at package-2 due to some official engagements.

The 9-km long train`s second trial run was carried out with maximum speed of 18-km per hour, completing the entire travel within 25 minutes.

Khwaja Ahmad Hassan project`s steering committee chairman/adviser to the Punjab CM inaugurated the second test run and travelled in the train along with Education Minister Rana Mashhood Khan, MNA Mehr Isthiaq, MPAs Mian Marghoob, Saiful Malook Khokhar, UC chairmen and vice chairmen, councillors and other notables of the area.

`Of total 26 stations, the track between 20 stations has been laid. The track between the remaining six stations would be laid by end of next month, connecting all stations with each other from package-1 to 2, he explained.

Mr Hassan said the grey structure of an underground station has been completed whereas work on the other is under way these days. So far 89 per cent of civil work on the entire project has been completed. `Similarly 72pc of the mechanical and electrical work has also been accomplished, he added.
