Manufacturing and sale of tractors sharply decline despite increase in overall demand for agricultural machinery

Agricultural experts have underlined the dire need for complete mechanization package comprising  soil preparatory implements, proficient equipment for high  efficiency  irrigation system, post-harvest processing , value-addition, food  engineering  and renewable  energy technologies  focusing on small farm holders.

During the last few decades, the overall demand for agricultural machinery has increased in the country mainly due to non-availability of labour.

Tractors has pivotal role in farm mechanization and substantially contributes  towards  agricultural productivity, the experts opined on being contacted.

According to the figures available from Pakistan Automotive  Manufacturers Association (PAMA),  during the period from July 2018-March 2019,  around  37457 tractors were manufactured in  the country which are as much as 29 per cent less as compared to the corresponding period of July 2017-March 2018 during which 52551 tractors were manufactured.

Similarly,  during July 2018-March 2019,  37742 tractors were sold in the market as compared to 52260  tractors during the corresponding period of  previous fiscal year showing a higher decline of as much as 28 per cent, the PAMA figures pointed out.

The experts stressed the dire need for popularizing  farm machinery for small land holding in the country.
