After a high level meeting on the first day of this month the Sindh government, Corps Headquarters Corps-5, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) decided to assign the work of removal of sludge from three nullahs in Karachi to FWO.
Three main Nullahs were assigned to FWO for clearing out of sludge. Gujjar Nallah was cleaned at choke points located at Bismillah Hotel, Prime CNG,KBR colony, Payala Hotel. It was cleaned to its entire length and leftover work along all its feeding nallahs.
The FWO also cleared Shahrah-e-Faisal storm water drains, both sides, along with adjacent choking points such as FTC, Nursery, Gulshan-e-Zafar, Tipu Sultan Road, Karsaz, Drigh Road, Stargate).
These measures have been taken on a war footing to prevent further loss of life and property from heavy monsoon rains expected in the second week of August. The MET department has already issued urban flooding warning for Karachi.
