Every year, the federal government seeks foreign assistance as loan or grant from friendly countries and international financial institutions for implementation of development projects and other programmes. The foreign assistance figures vary for each financial year depending on the federal government requirements and response from the donor countries and international banking institutions.
In doing so, the federal government also seeks foreign assistance for a number of autonomous bodies for financing and implementation of their development projects and programmes .
According to the facts and figures now available from the official documents, WAPA (Power) had sought foreign assistance as loans/ grants amounting to Rs 69479.614 million for financial year 2025-26 but somehow it had not received any penny even as per the revised figures for the last financial year. WAPDA (Power) as such had not sought any foreign assistance for its development projects and plans during the financial year 2026-27.
National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) had neither sought any foreign assistance through the federal government for financial year 2025-26 nor for ongoing fiscal year 2026-27.
The Power Division of the Federal Government had not requested any foreign assistance but as per the budget documents, it had received Rs 107378.880 million as loans for financial year 2025-26 and also sought loans amounting Rs 78607.502 million for financial year 2026-27.
WAPDA (Water) also had not sought any foreign financial assistance neither for financial year 2025-26 nor for 2026-27.
National Highway Authority (NHA) had sought foreign assistance amounting to Rs 54868 million for financial year 2025-26 and received almost half of its sought foreign aid i.e. Rs 25978.815 million as per the revised figures. National Highway Authority will be getting foreign assistance for its development projects implementation to the extent of Rs 59250.000 million during financial year 2026-27.
National Highway Authority had received only RS 96.55 million against budgeted figures of Rs 1500.000 million during financial year 2025-26 and was likely to receive Rs 2000.000 million during 2026-27 as grants from the donor countries and financial institutions.
