The working-age population in Pakistan has increased from 159.8 million to 179.6 million reflecting the country’s expanding labour supply.

According to the latest Labour Force Survey 2024-25, the employed labour force has also risen from 67.25 million to 77.2 million indicating an increase in employment opportunities during the period.

At the same time, the number of unemployed persons had also increased from 4.51 million to 5.9 million, with the unemployment rate rising from 6.3 percent to 7.1 percent, thereby highlighting the need for further accelerating job creation in line with labour force growth.

The labour force participation rate has also improved from 44.9 percent to 46.3 percent, indicating greater engagement  of the population , including youth and women, in the labour market.

On the whole, the data so available has indicated an expansion in employment opportunities, while at the same time also underscoring the dire need for further strengthening job creation in line with theeeee growing working-age population in the country.
