Water and Energy projects approved for Baluchistan

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has granted approval to major water and energy projects for the province of Balochistan.

Advisor to Prime Minister on Finance Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh chaired the meeting of Ecnec. During the meeting Ecnec gave approval to the Winder Dam Project. The Dam is to be constructed across Winder River in District Lasbela, Balochistan with the total cost of Rs15,230.76 million. The expected time of completion of the project is four years without Foreign Exchange Component (FEC). The meeting decided that the Government of Balochistan would ensure completion of the project within approved scope and cost and condition. In case of further revision, cost increase would be borne by the provincial government from its own resources.

The Ecnec also approved Kachhi Canal project at District Dera Bugti, Balochistan Province at the revised cost of Rs22,921 million. A component of detailed engineering design/tender documents/PC-Is for phase II and phase III costing Rs120 million has been added in the cost summary of this project, which would be actively pursued.

The Kachi canal project started in 2002 but was later abandoned. It is now expected that the project would be completed in three years from the date of approval
