Turkmenistan to invest in energy sector and electricity export to Pakistan

Minister for Power Omar Ayub Khan met with Turkmenistan’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Atadjan Movlamov and discussed the potential of investments in the energy sector. Omar said that energy sector can be very profitable for foreign and local investors due to the fast changing energy consumption pattern. Matters related to mutual cooperation in the energy sector were discussed in at length. Turkmenistan ambassador appreciated the present government’s efforts to introduce investor friendly policies in all its sectors which have resulted in significant enhancement of foreign investment in Pakistan. He said that investors in his country were closely following the developments in Pakistan, and were keen to invest in various flourishing sectors.
During the meeting Turkmenistan also proposed to export electricity to Pakistan through a transmission line going through Afghanistan. “Since the rate of Turkmenistan proposed electricity is highly affordable, it will benefit Pakistan in many ways,” the ambassador added.
Thanking the ambassador on his proposal of electricity import transmission project, the minister assured the Turkmen ambassador that after thorough homework, Pakistan would respond to the proposal.
