Thar Coal power project to be completed by 2023

Shanghai electric president Liu Ping met Prime Minister Shehbaz Shareef and discussed about the Thar coal power project and it’s completion. He informed that the work on the project has been paused for the past few years but it has been expedited after irresistible government support.
The PM asked his special representative Zafaruddin Mehmood and additional secretary Nadeem Chaudhary to provide the Chinese company all the support that is required for their work and early completion of the project. The project is said to be completed by the first quarter of 2023 and is said to add a total of 1320MW of power to the supply.
The company also showed interest in investing further in the energy sector of the country for generation and transmission as well as distribution. The government of Pakistan appreciated the work and welcomed the company for any further work in the country. The president of Shanghai electric also thanked the government for their support.
PM Shehbaz Shareef also highlighted the significance of CPEC in the development of the country and its welfare. “The entire nation is thankful to President Xi Jinping and the Chinese leadership for helping Pakistan in every difficult phase,” he said.
Former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Federal Minister for Electricity Khurram Dastgir Khan, Minister of State for Petroleum Dr Musadik Malik, special assistants, Zafaruddin Mahmood, Dr Jahanzeb Khan, and concerned senior officials attended the meeting.
