SMS Enterprises Expands with Advanced Weatherproof Electrical Solutions

CEO Rehmatullah Abdullah discusses innovation, expansion, and Pakistan’s electrical industry

In Pakistan’s electrical industry, few names resonate with legacy and reliability as strongly as SMS Enterprises. Established over six decades ago by Muhammad Shafi Daftary, the company has grown from a modest electrical shop into one of the country’s trusted suppliers of electrical solutions for panel builders, industries, and the rapidly growing solar sector. Today, under the leadership of CEO Rehmatullah Abdullah and COO Sibghatullah, SMS Enterprises continues to expand its product portfolio while maintaining its commitment to quality, innovation, and customer satisfaction. To gain insight into the company’s vision and future plans, Engineering Post conducted an interview with Rehmatullah Abdullah, Chief Executive Officer of SMS Enterprises.

Discussing the company’s expansion strategy and new product development, Rehmatullah Abdullah explained that electrical panel building has always been the company’s core area of expertise. He stated, “building on this strong foundation, SMS Enterprises has recently focused on introducing IP65 and IP66 weatherproof electrical products. This decision was driven by the need for reliable outdoor electrical products, particularly in coastal areas such as Karachi and Gwadar, where high humidity and moisture can affect electrical installations, also in northern areas of Pakistan where the weather is mostly rainy ” He further shared that the company’s international brand partner, KRIPAL, manufactures a wide range of weatherproof products, including industrial and commercial plug & sockets, switches, isolators even doorbell switches, which are exported to countries such as Russia and Australia. According to him, very few brands offer such a comprehensive range of weatherproof electrical products.

When asked about competition in the weatherproof electrical equipment market, Rehmatullah Abdullah emphasized that quality, reliability, and certified products are the company’s greatest strengths. He explained that all products are thoroughly tested to ensure they meet high safety standards. “Since ineffective weatherproofing can lead to moisture ingress, electrical faults, and short-circuit hazards, SMS Enterprises remains committed to continuously improving product quality and performance”, he said.

Speaking about the company’s strategy for the Pakistani market, he explained that the weatherproof product range was developed after carefully considering Pakistan’s climatic conditions, especially the humid environment of Karachi. The company’s objective is to provide customers with high-quality IP-rated electrical products that ensure durability, safety, and long-term performance in challenging weather conditions.

Regarding pricing, Rehmatullah Abdullah highlighted that SMS Enterprises enjoys a significant advantage because Kripal supplies its products at factory-based prices. This enables the company to offer premium-quality electrical equipment at competitive and affordable prices, allowing customers to access reliable products without compromising on quality.

Discussing the company’s role in the solar industry, he said, “SMS Enterprises provides a comprehensive range of solar electrical solutions, including control boxes, high-quality breaker boxes, IP-rated lockable enclosures, DC isolators, DC load break switches capable of handling high current ratings, and complete electrical panel solutions. The equipment is provided by brand Optimus, which increases the reliability of the product regarding efficiency and quality”. He concluded that by combining quality products, competitive pricing, and continuous innovation, SMS Enterprises aims to strengthen its position as one of Pakistan’s leading providers of electrical and solar solutions.
