Sibi-Harnai section Rehabilitation work near completion

Pakistan Railways will complete rehabilitation work of Sibi-Harnai (95 km) section soon while Harnai-Khost (39 km) section is scheduled to be completed by February 2018.

Ministry of Railways has actively pursued the revival of Pakistan Railways infrastructure during the last five years and had undertaken to rebuild the Sibi-Harnai and Harnai-Khost, on which 75 per cent work has already been done.

Similarly work for the rehabilitation of Kohat City-Rawalpindi section (174 km) is likely to be completed during the current month as 80 per cent work has already been executed.

There are proposals under consideration for laying new railway track from Gwadar to Besima and Jacobabad via Khuzdar and Zhob, D.I Khan-Kotla Jam, PC-II for feasibility studies for the proposed new rail links had been approved and the feasibility study was underway.

Up-gradation of feasibility study from Gwadar to Mastung and new rail link from Besima to Jacobabad via Khuzdar, the proposed link would start from Gwadar and connect with Mastung/Wali Khan (an existing station on Quetta-Zahidan Line 48 km from Quetta) via Turbat, Hoshab, Panjgur and Besima having a length of 899.89 km.

The alignment from Besima further connects with Jacobabad via Khuzdar, having a length of 387 km. The feasibility study for this new route is in progress. The estimated cost of project would be Rs 185 billion, the official added.
