Rs 270 billion investment approved for the Karachi Circular railway by ECNEC

A meeting held under the supervision of minister of finance Shaukat Tareen, took up a number of important summaries to be observed upon which were put forward by the ministry of planning, development and special initiatives. The executive committee of national economic council (ECNEC) gave the permission for a 270 billion rupees investment for developmental projects which include the Karachi circular railway project standing at a total cost of 201 billion rupees. Moreover, investment on the greater Thal canal project was also approved which constituted about 38 billion rupees.
The circular railway project is stated to be a mode of chief urban transportation in the Karachi city, and the construction of a 43 km long dual track urban mass transit system is envisioned for the project. This project is planned to be completed in a span of three years. The planning, execution and developmental schemes are said to be supervised by Karachi Circular Railway Management Company (KCRMC).
Another summary was submitted to the ECNEC by the ministry of planning regarding rural economic transformation project (RETP), the basic aim of which is the betterment of financial situations of rural households which is said to be done by multi- sectoral interventions in agri business and promotion of employment opportunities. The project will change the lifestyle and living conditions of more than 35 rural districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It was approved at a cost of 30 billion rupees.
Federal Minister for Energy Hammad Azhar, Minister for Irrigation Department Punjab Muhammad Mohsin Leghari, Deputy Chairman Planning Commission, federal secretaries and other senior officers from federal as well as provincial governments participated in the meeting.
