Ravi Riverfront project can be game changer for industrial revival

The Ravi Riverfront Urban Development (RRFUD) project envisaged on the model of Dubai has the potential to change the fate of Lahore and industry. The project has the potential to accommodate the whole population of Lahore.

While addressing the inauguration ceremony of the Rs. 5 Trillion project PM Imran Khan said “This is the second biggest planned city after Islamabad which will create job opportunities and wealth.”

Ravi Riverfront will be developed in three phases. In the initial phase, a lake covering an area of 46 kilometers, six wastewater treatment plants, three barrages and urban forest would be developed during the first three years. Development of the lake will purge the Ravi from domestic and industrial waste and provide 271 billion liters of water, which will irrigate 75,000 acres of land.

According to sources Twelve new cities, including Residential City, Medical City, Downtown, Commercial Hub, Urban Farms and Miscellaneous Use City, will be developed in the first phase with Innovation City spanning over 1370 acres in the second phase while, the third phase, Knowledge City, Sports City and Eco City on a land area of 14000 acres will be completed. A total land area of 103,271 acres will be acquired from public and government control for the development of the RRFUD.
