Punjab steel mills to meet stricter rules ahead of Smog season

The Smog Commission Punjab has directed all steel furnaces to conform to new rules for environmental protection by the end of august 2019 at the latest. Under the new rules Steel furnaces will have to install dry scrubbers and steel re-rolling mills will not be allowed to use black carbon as fuel. The wet scrubbers already installed will be converted into dry scrubbers to help reduce smog in the next season.
This was decided during a meeting at EPD Complex Lahore chaired by its chairman Dr Pervaiz Hassan. Secretary Environment Protection Department Asad Rehman Gillani, Director Nasim ur Rehman Shah, Deputy Director Misbah ul Haq and other concerned officials also attended the meeting.
