The Federal Government is attaching due importance to the Information Technology sector in the country in order to keep pace with the fast developments taking place in this sector throughout the world.
A number of projects are underway to improve capacity of the Information Technology industry by further providing infrastructure and facilities for startups and small Information Technology businesses, increasing the quality of skills and capacity of the organizations to consistently keep delivering high quality services and products, raising its standard to compete in the international arena, and accelerating the pace of e-government to facilitate citizens to avail public services.
Accordingly, major thrust is Information Technology sector is being laid on the following during current financial year:
Knowledge Economy Task Force’s Information Technology projects in areas of Freelancing Marketing and Innovation Funds, Technology Zones Software /Technology Economic Zones.
Development of Technology Parks to facilitate rapidly growing entrepreneurial ecosystem in the country.
(Technology Parks Development Project was also launched during last financial year 2018-19 and negotiations for technical assistance from Korea were initiated).
Under project “Enhancing IT Exports through Industry Support Programs “, 50 more companies are being provided CMMI consultancy to attain certification of CMMI level-2,CMMI level-6, CMMI level-5 and ISO 27001/20000 international standards.
Pakistan Space Centre (PSC) is under process of execution.
(Pakistan Space Centre was approved during financial year 2018-19 which aims to establish indigenous facility for development of satellites in accordance with the international space standards. The space centre will have the capability to carry out manufacturing, testing, system level assembly, integration, launch and operations of various types of satellites.)
Pakistan Multi-Mission Satellite (PakSat-MMI) is also being processed for execution
Feasibility Study of Pakistan’s 2nd Optical Remote Sensing Satellite (PRSS-02) is being worked out
Under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) in Phase-II, Cross Border OFC System between China and Pakistan for international connectivity of voice and data traffic for ensuring alternate route for international internet connectivity
Upgrading /Expanding internet and broadband services in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector is working on these major thrusts and planning much more under an allocation of Rs 11140 million under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) of the Federal Government 2019-20.
