The Executive Board of National Highway Authority’s (NHA) has recommended the 2nd revised PC-1 of Malakand Tunnel project at a cost of Rs23.565 billion. An updated PC-I for the project was presented to the board which was approved for design, tendering assistance and construction of Malakand Tunnel project at a cost of Rs23.565 billion having an Economic Internal Rate of Return (EIRR) of 8.25% for approval of Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC).
It is pertinent to mention here that the original PC-1 of the project was approved at Rs9.043 billion.. The malakand tunnel is based on two tubes concept which has played a major role in increasing the cost of the project. The Board has directed for performing 3rd party review of the 2nd revised PC-I for design, tendering assistance and construction of Malakand Tunnel project
Detailed design of Malakand Tunnel project is complete. Construction period is 42 months. The government has earmarked Rs100 million in PSDP 2019-20 for Malakand Tunnel project.
