Pakistani workers were proceeding abroad for employment and exploring better chances for living and as many as more than 12.4 million Pakistanis had proceeded abroad seeking jobs in more than 50 countries around the globe through official procedure as of December 2022.
More than 96 per cent of Pakistani registered workers for overseas employment have gone to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries especially in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
According to the information available from the Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment, in 2022 more than 62 percent ( 514725) of Pakistani workers moved to Saudi Arabia followed by UAE (15.5 percent) for earning their livelihood. Oman provided jobs to 82380 (9.9 per cent) and Qatar accommodated 57984 (7 per cent) Pakistani workers in different occupations while Bahrain and Malaysia welcomed 13652 (1.6 per cent) and 6175 (0.7 per cent) workers from Pakistan respectively.
