Pakistan to become first country in South Asia with electric buses

Daewoo Pakistan Express Bus Service has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Skywell Automobile, a Chinese automobile manufacturing company, to introduce electric buses in Pakistan. Skywell Automobile will be investing $50 million to launch electric buses in Pakistan.

In the first phase electric buses will be imported in the country for use. These buses will become operational by the end of this year. Within three years the company will start manufacturing electric buses in Pakistan. Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry while talking to media said that this will make Pakistan the first country in south Asia to run electric buses.

Skywell Automobile CEO, speaking through a video link, said such an agreement between Pakistan and China would help build the automobile industry of Pakistan on modern lines and open new avenues for energy-based vehicles.
