The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved a number of major development initiatives aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s infrastructure, transport network, water resources and social sectors, reaffirming the government’s focus on long-term economic growth and regional connectivity.
The meeting, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, approved the detailed design of the strategically important Main Line-1 (ML-1) railway project along with the Havelian Dry Port project and Thar Coal Rail Connectivity scheme. The committee also cleared arrangements related to the Diamer Basha Dam, considered vital for enhancing the country’s water storage and power generation capacity.
Among other approved projects were Lowari Tunnel access works, Kachhi Canal development, irrigation improvement projects in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, expansion initiatives at Jinnah Hospital Islamabad, the Sindh Human Capital 1000 Days Programme and Sindh flood rehabilitation support measures.
