The National Highway Authority (NHA) had actively processed during FY July-March 2026 a number of strategically important PC-1s and revised PC-1s for consideration and approval by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC), Central Development Working Party (CDWP) and other relevant forums. These projects, according to information gathered from the NHA sources, were primarily focused on motorways expansion, rehabilitation and widening of national highways, construction of bypasses and tunnels, improvement of regional connectivity corridors, and enhancement of transport infrastructure in underserved areas. The proposed were expected to improve trade and logistics efficiency, facilitate regional integration, and strengthen the country’s overall transport network.
Among the major projects processed during the period under report here were the Karachi-Hyderabad Motorway (M-10 project with cost of over Rs 511 billion, the Lahore-Sahiwal Bahawalnagar Motorway estimated at Rs 406.9 billion, and the Ghulam Khan-Esa Khel Motorway project costing Rs 184.5 billion. In addition, revised PC-is for the Khwazakhela-Besham Expressway ,rehabilitation and widening of various sections of N-40 and N-65, and the construction of the Kharan-Basima Road were also forwarded for approval, reflecting continued emphasis on enhancing national and regional connectivity, particularly in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces.
The projects processed during the period also included schemes which related to the widening of M-1 and M-2 to support integration with the Rawalpindi Ring Road, construction of the Wangu Hill Tunnel on M-8,Mansehra-Muzaffarabad Expressway, Lalamusa Bypass on M-5, and several interchanges, bypass , and maintenance projects aiming at improving traffic flow, road safety, and operational efficiency. These initiatives as such duly highlight the federal government’s continued focus on modernizing the national road infrastructure and expanding
strategic transport corridors across the country.
