LCMC in hot water after irregularities found in bidding process

A division bench of the SHC headed by Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar has prohibited the Sindh Government from handing over 3200 acres of land to the Lakhra Coal Mining Company (LCMC). This process was initiated by the petition of Sagar Ujjan who challenged the process of giving 3200 acres mining lease to the Lakhra Coal Mining Company by the caretaker government. According to the petitioner the Chief Minister in the last interim setup had no power to grant lease under section 230 of the Election Act, 2017.

The counsel of the petitioner stated that due process was not followed by the caretaker Chief Minister who violated the law and allotted the land to LCMC without Bidding. The 3200 acre mining lease was not approved by the cabinet either. Mining has not started yet in the said area.
