KP to impose tax on minerals

 

The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is going to impose excise duty on certain minerals to finance measures for promoting the welfare of mines labourers. The revenue collected through this channel will be spent solely for uplifting the living standards of miners and their welfare.
In this regard the provincial government has already passed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Excise Duty on Minerals (Labour Welfare) Bill, 2019 that getting the assent of the Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will become an Act of the provincial legislature. The Bill will extend to the whole Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and will come into force at once.
The excise duty will be levied at the rate of Rs 3 to Rs 7 per ton on 74 minerals produced in the province. Soon after the commencement of the Act, the KP chief minister will notify the constitution of KP Mines Labour Welfare Board that will headed by Secretary Minerals Development Department as chairman, while Chief Commissioner of Mines Labour Welfare KP will be vice chairman.
