Key interventions of the Knowledge Economy Initiative in planning

Number of key interventions and progammes as part of the Knowledge Economy Initiative are either in the planning and implementation stages in different parts of the country during current financial year to further promote information and communication technologies.

Important projects in this regard in brief are as follows;

An all-encompassing feasibility study is underway on the basis of which Software Technology  Zones will be established in different parts of the country. This would facilitate rapidly growing entrepreneurial ecosystem in the country.

A National Centre for Artificial Intelligence in collaboration with China is planned to be established at a location which is yet to be selected through mutual consultation.

A National Centre of IoTs and Expansion of National Incubation Centres (NICS) are also at the planning stages.

For enhancing IT/ITeS exports, a Marketing Strategy feasibility study and implementation programme is in the planning process.

A pilot project to develop a Digital Agriculture Ecosystem in the country is also in the pipeline at the appropriate level.

Feasibility study related to application of digital technologies in igg-tech boil-facilities is also envisages.

Through Ministry of Information Technologies project titled “Enhancing IT Exports through Industry Support Programmes”, 30 more companies are being provided CMMI consultancy to attain certification of CMMI level-2, CMMI level 3 , CMMI level 5 and ISO 27001/20000 international standards.

Similarly, a “Certification  of IT Professionals” is in the process of providing subsidized  training  in areas such  as big data, cloud computing, cyber security , machine  leaning, quality  assurance. Project management, etc.

Pakistan Space Centre (PSC) is in the process of execution.

Pakistan Multi- Mission Satellite (PakSat-MMI) in the process of execution.

Feasibility Study of Pakistan’s 2nd Optical Remote Sensing Satellite (PRSS-02) is also to be executed during ongoing fiscal year.

In  Phase—11, under CPEC, Cross Border Optical Fiber Cable  (OFC) system between China and Pakistan for  international connectivity of Voice and Data traffic is in the implementation stages. This  will enable an alternative route for international internet connectivity.

Internet and broadband services are being upgraded and expended in Gilgit/Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJ&K).

 Ministry of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives in IT, Monitoring and Evaluation are also being strengthened.
