JES Instrumentation: Engineering Smarter Buildings in Pakistan

An Exclusive Interview with Founder and CEO, Saifuddin Mandviwala

Founded in 1995, JES Instrumentation & Controls has spent more than three decades delivering Building Management Systems, HVAC controls, energy management, smart metering, and automation solutions across Pakistan.

From hospitals and pharmaceutical facilities to shopping malls, educational institutions, commercial buildings, and residential developments, JES has built its reputation around a simple principle: technology should make buildings more efficient, reliable, and comfortable for the people who use them.

Speaking to Engineering Post, Saifuddin Mandviwala, Founder and CEO of JES Instrumentation & Controls, reflects on the company’s journey and what he describes as human-centered automation.

“When we started, building automation was still an emerging concept in Pakistan,” Mr. Mandviwala says. “Our objective was to help organisations operate their buildings efficiently while creating safer and more comfortable environments.”

Today, JES provides services across the complete project lifecycle, including design, installation, programming, integration, testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, maintenance, and long-term technical support. This approach is reflected in the company’s philosophy, “From concept to commissioning.”

For JES, however, responsibility increasingly extends beyond commissioning. At IBA City Campus, Aman Tower, the company has supported the Building Management System under a Service Level Agreement since September 2019. In June 2025, JES also began supporting the IBA Main Campus Library Building under an SLA.

“Commissioning is not where responsibility ends,” Mr. Mandviwala explains. “The real test is how reliably the system continues to perform several years later.”

JES has developed experience across several critical sectors. In healthcare, it has worked with institutions including Liaquat National Hospital and Memon Medical Hospital. Its pharmaceutical portfolio includes Brookes Pharma, Platinum Pharmaceuticals, and Asian Continental Pharmaceuticals. At Platinum Pharmaceuticals, JES has worked across the DPI facility, Dispensing Unit, Cephalosporin area, and Hormone facility.

Commercial and residential projects include Gul-Tijarah, Giga Mall, and Emaar Towers, where JES has delivered building automation, HVAC controls, metering, integration, and centralized monitoring solutions.

The company has also continued expanding its technical capabilities. JES has developed capability around Phoenix Controls Venturi Valve solutions for critical environments, supported by specialized Honeywell training in Dubai. Its relationships with Honeywell, CentraLine by Honeywell, and INHEMETER further support its building automation and energy management activities.

JES recently celebrated its 30th anniversary, marking three decades of projects, partnerships, and team development. The milestone also reflects the increasing involvement of the next generation.

Mansoor Mandviwala, who has completed 10 years with JES, serves as Manager Technical Sales and plays an important role in technical sales, project coordination, and the company’s activities across Punjab.

Mudreka Mandviwala, who joined JES one year ago as Business Development Executive, supports client engagement, market development, communication, and efforts to strengthen the company’s visibility among consultants, contractors, and prospective clients.

“The next generation has to understand the business from the ground up,” Mr. Mandviwala says. “They must understand the technology, clients, sites, and responsibility behind every project, while also bringing new ideas for the future.”

Looking ahead, JES sees building automation moving toward greater integration, energy visibility, intelligent control, and long-term sustainability.

For the company, the next chapter remains rooted in the same philosophy that has guided its first three decades:

Understand the requirement. Engineer the right solution. Support it for the long term.

From concept to commissioning.
