Islamabad to have Tram service?

Islamabad may have tram service soon as a Chinese company gave detailed presentation to CDA officers in this regard.

The train and tram service was part of original master plan of Islamabad.

An official of CDA told that a Chinese company, which is carrying out Orange Line Metro Train Project in Lahore, gave detailed presentation to CDA on proposed tram project.

He said that apparently it’s impossible for CDA to carry out this project, as around Rs100 billion are required for this mega project; however, he said if this project is made part of Pakistan-China Economic Corridor, it can be executed.

The official said that Chinese company officials gave detailed presentation to Member Planning CDA Asad Mehboob Kayani and transport engineers as well as other concerned officers, offering them to engage services of the company to start this project in Islamabad.

We are also interested in tram project, subject to availability of funding.” About the Chinese officials’ briefing, he said that it was orientation meeting. “If convinced, we can ask the federal government for funding,” he said.

In past too, the CDA considered several proposals related to mass transit but remained failed to materialize them.
