Investigation comittee to look into illegal appointment of DMD NTDC

The Power Division has formed a four membered Investigation committee to probe the matter of illegal appointment of Ali Zain Banatwala as DMD (SO) NTDC.

The body will look into the reasons why Ali Zain Banatwala was appointed through bypassing the SECP rules and regulations. The Inquiry Committee will comprise Additional Secretary-III, Power Division (Convenor), Joint Secretary (Power Finance), Power Division, Managing Director, NTDC and a representative of SECP. Power Division has requested SECP to nominate a senior officer as member of the Inquiry Committee and convey it to Power Division at the earliest.

Last month during the meeting of Senate Standing Committee on Power, headed by Senator Saif Ullah Abro, Senator Fida Muhammad had raised the matter of the illegal appointment of Banatwala as deputy managing director (SO), NTDC. He told the committee that prior to the recent appointment, Banatwala was serving as a consultant in the NTDC and currently, receiving a monthly salary of Rs1.83 million. He further added that age relaxation was reduced from 58 to 56 years for honouring appointment to the former. Senator Saifullah Abro directed the Power Division to terminate Banatwala as Deputy MD of the NTDC and recover all the vested money in him.
