International Housing Conference to be held in January

Punjab Minister for Housing, Urban Development and Public Health Engineering Mian Mahmood-ur-Rashid announced to the press that an international housing conference will be held in January to attract international construction companies for the construction of the envisioned 5 Million houses under ‘Naya Pakistan Housing Scheme’ (NPHS). According to sources a committee has also been constituted to amend basic laws of all the development authorities to make housing laws simple for the masses and the developers as achieving the target of five million homes is not possible without it.

12,000 low-cost houses under the banner of NPHS will start construction in Lodharan, Chishtian and Renala Khurd by early 2019. Another project of 6,000 low-cost housing units will soon be started in Lahore, Faisalabad and Multan. 1700 housing units each will be built in Jhelum while 10,000 houses will be constructed in Sialkot. A Batch of 10,000 houses, being constructed jointly by NPHS and Akhuwat Foundation (AF) is expected to reach completion by the end of June 2019. NPHS and AF will provide interest free loans of 500,000 to people who own land but lack resources to build their homes. 200,000 kanal land has been included in land bank and committees comprising deputy commissioners, district housing officers and local political personalities have been constituted to submit their recommendations in all the districts.
