Khanpur Dam project still awaiting completion after nine years

Khanpur dam project has still not reached completion even after nine years of being launched. Phase three of the project which includes connection of the main supply to the network is still pending.

According to sources all the underground reservoirs and overhead tanks that are part of the project have been built and complete but the main supply has not been connected due to which the residents of Rawalpindi and Chaklala are unable to use the water from Khanpur Dam.

90 percent of the Rs800 million project stands completed with only 10 percent remaining. The main reason for delay in project completion is non-availability or slow release of funds by the federal government.

The Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB), had sought Rs40m in financial assistance from the government to complete the work, but the request was also not entertained.
