Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has performed the momentous groundbreaking of the 1200 megawatts Chashma-5 nuclear power plant in Mianwali, signifying a significant milestone in the enduring partnership between China and Pakistan.
The Chashma-5 nuclear power project, with an estimated budget of 3.5 billion dollars, is projected to reach completion within the next seven to eight years. However, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif urged for accelerated efforts to shorten this installation timeframe, recognizing the substantial benefits it would bestow upon the people of Pakistan. He expressed profound gratitude to China for their generous discount of thirty billion rupees.
Ms Pang Chunxue, the Charge D’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy, while speaking at the occasion emphasized the transformative impact of the Chashma-5 nuclear power plant. The project is poised to generate over ten thousand employment opportunities locally and stimulate a substantial influx of raw materials, equipment, and ancillary services, igniting a veritable engine of socio-economic development within the region and will also help Pakistan in achieving its clean energy objectives. Raja Ali Raza Anwar, Chairman of Pakistan Atomic Energy Cooperation, hailed the Chashma-5 project as a momentous stride toward the envisioned goal of generating 8800 megawatts of pristine nuclear energy.
