“Golden Triangle” can help bringing prosperity

The exporters, producers and sellers belonging to Golden Economic Triangle of Pakistan had admonished upon the government to call for radical steps for exploiting the unrealized capacities of the unique economic golden triangle of the country.
The golden triangle had vivacious and strong industrial, manufacturing base for domestic and international markets. In the past the three triangular cities of Pakistan, Sialkot, Gujranwala and Gujrat had been proving to establish their positions as major stakeholders and contributors of national economy. These cities are known as the golden triangle of Pakistan with a strong industrial base but still dumb. The triangle signifies the peak SME base of Pakistan employing millions of skilled workforces and among the highest per capita income in the state. The triangle has got its unique importance because of its invention of highly value-added merchandise being both disseminated local trades.

Pakistan’s overall economic growth has also been hampered due to so much dependence on Textile Industry and not focusing on Export Divergence fronted by highly value-added sectors addressing from the Golden Economic Triangle including the Sports Goods and Apparel, Surgical Instruments, Leather Products, Cutlery, Ceramic Ware, Sanitary products, Metal Processing, Switch Gears and Transformers, Pumps and Motors, Articles and Made-ups of Plastic and PVC, Fans, Carpets and Furniture to name a few. The Former President Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), Dr. Newman Idrees Butt had been mentioning on multiple forums that Sialkot, Gujranwala and Gujrat represent the highest SME base of Pakistan employing millions of skilled labors and among the highest per capita incomes of the state. It is high time that government should take innovative steps for exploiting the potentials of the Golden Economic Triangle (Sialkot, Gujranwala and Gujrat), but still no revolutionary steps have been carried.

After Separation, the section grew itself, certainly with the help from the Government, which is reckoned as a support and manager of the budget, but major credit goes to the majestic Chambers and Associations of the three cities who have strived to promote economic activities in the region by facilitating the businesses and initiating projects to aid the experts on self-helped basis. Keeping in view the global economies and successful models like China, Bangladesh, Vietnam and others, it can be demonstrated that their positive export performances during the last two decades depended a lot of targeted trade policies and reliance on value-addition. Although, the potentials and the craftsman skill of Golden Economic Triangle acknowledged at several assemblies, but unfortunately has not been given deserving priority. The prevailing economic crisis in the state indicates that the potential of cities like Sialkot, Gujranwala and Gujrat was never tapped and utilized. In short, the federal government must recognize the fact that increasing exports are the only way out of Pakistan and for that it would have to focus on promoting Export Entrepreneurship that is thriving in the Golden Economic Triangle of Pakistan.
