First shipment of private LNG to arrive by end of November

Chief Executive Officer of Universal Gas Distribution Company (UGDC) Ghiyas Abdullah Paracha has said that the first private shipment, carrying around 130,000 cubic meter Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), is likely to arrive at Karachi by the end of November 2019. The users of private LNG, will be called UGDC consumers.

The Trafigura and Gas Port have ownership of additional private capacity at the terminal. A formula already exists under which private sector can import LNG as per its requirements, get it injected into existing gas transmission network and receive at industrial units.

Hundreds of completed CNG stations had been waiting for the gas connection for years but could not start operation due to unavailability of Gas. Now these would also be able to start their operations after getting connections through RLNG supply. With the promotion of CNG fuel the country would be able to save around $ 1 billion annually on account of oil import bill and control air pollution in big cities as CNG is environment-friendly fuel and almost 30 percent cost-effective as compared to petrol.
