Software Technology Parks have been a major factor in facilitating Information Technology (IT) and Information Technology enabled Services (ITeS) companies in the country.
There was a strong demand for Software Technology Parks due to the booming of Information Technology industry.
In order to meet the demand, Software Technology Parks are being set up on public-private partnership basis. Public Sector Enterprises Board is also setting up these parks through conversion of unused buildings into state of the art Software Technology Parks with particular focus on second and tertiary cities of Pakistan. This would expand Pakistan’s tech eco system beyond Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi, thus contributing to the local economies through extension of tech industry , export earnings growth and employment generation .
According to the information till some months back, Public Sector Enterprises Board had 21 operational Software Technology Parks with 1.25 million square feet of space serving 170 IT & ITeS companies..
