Employment Generation under CPEC

Engineering Post Report

Investment under the great game changer China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which is being implemented in three phases and its performance being reviewed periodically by senior officials concerned from the two time-tested friendly neighbouring countries, is expected to be around $ 50.70 billion.

This huge inflow of investment will quite hopefully and expectedly generate massive economic activities and consequently generate employment opportunities, both direct and indirect, in both urban and rural areas of Pakistan.

Apart from focusing on energy, infrastructure and Gwadar projects, 9 Special Economic Zones are being established in different parts of the country which will be creating tremendous job opportunities and technological transformation. These include Hattar Special Economic Zone, Haripur, Khyber Pukhtoonkhwa ;Oil Village Special Economic Zone , Rawalpindi, Punjab; Bostan Special Economic Zone, Pishin, Balochistan; Hub Special Economic Zone, Lasbela, Balochistan; Rashakai Special Economic Zone, Nowshera,Khyber Pukhtoonkhwa among others besides a number of industrial estates .

Further, Pakistan Railways Main Line-1 (ML-1) mega project for up-gradation and dualization of the rail track from Peshawar to Karachi, running into 1872 kilometers, also has a potential of ————–creating as many as 174000 direct jobs as and when it gets under implementation.

Official quarters concerned are quite hopeful and confident that employment opportunities in the industries being set up under the overall umbrella of CPEC would further go up over the period of time.
