Four Decades of Excellence in Pakistan’s Electrical Sector
Established in 1983, Elektrotechnik has grown into one of Pakistan’s most respected names in the electrical distribution sector. Known for its long-standing association with Schneider Electric, the company has played a major role in introducing high-quality electrical solutions to industries, businesses and infrastructure projects across the country. Through decades of commitment, technical excellence and customer confidence, Elektrotechnik has evolved from a modest enterprise into one of the leading distributors of Schneider Electric products in Pakistan. In an exclusive interview with Engineering Post, CEO Engr. Iqrarul Haq reflected on his inspiring professional journey, the company’s success story and the future of the electrical industry in Pakistan.
Sharing the early chapters of his career, Engr. Iqrarul Haq said his academic background laid the foundation for everything that followed. He graduated as a gold medallist from NED University, one of Pakistan’s premier engineering institutions, and soon after received a scholarship for postgraduate studies in Germany. “That opportunity changed my life,” he said. “Studying in Germany exposed me to advanced engineering concepts and international standards. I secured third position in my class, which opened further doors for my professional career.”
After completing his studies, he joined AEG in Germany, where he worked for six years and gained valuable industrial experience. During that period, he was entrusted with a major assignment in Pakistan. “I was sent back to Pakistan as a coordinator for a team of twenty engineers to establish the manufacturing facility of Pak Elektron Ltd,” he explained. “It was a challenging project, but it gave me confidence in my leadership and technical abilities. Once the assignment was completed, I decided it was time to build something of my own.”
That decision led to the creation of Elektrotechnik in 1982. According to Engr. Iqrarul Haq, the company was founded with a clear vision to bring advanced electrical technology and reliable products to the Pakistani market. “We started with determination, technical expertise and a desire to serve customers professionally,” he said. “Over the years, our consistency and dedication helped us earn the trust of Schneider Electric as well as our valued customers.”
He noted that Elektrotechnik’s strong technical understanding has been one of the biggest reasons behind its growth. The company has remained a preferred distribution partner because of its ability to guide customers with the right solutions while ensuring dependable after-sales support. “In this business, selling products alone is not enough,” he remarked. “Customers expect knowledge, support and confidence. We always focused on building technical strength within our organisation.”
Speaking about the development of Pakistan’s engineering and electrical market, Engr. Iqrarul Haq stressed the importance of professional training. “The most important factor for market improvement is technical training,” he said. “Every company should invest in seminars, workshops and continuous learning for engineers. Technology is changing rapidly, and employees must stay updated with the latest systems and products.”
Discussing Schneider Electric’s future in Pakistan, he expressed great optimism. “I see a very bright future for Schneider Electric in Pakistan because of its exceptional quality and reliability,” he said. “The product range is extensive, and the performance standards are unmatched. For example, our air circuit breakers remain in service for fifteen to twenty years and continue to perform efficiently.”
He added that product availability also plays a decisive role in market leadership. “Many competitors offer quality products, but timely availability is often a challenge for them,” he observed. “When customers know they can rely on both quality and supply, they naturally choose Schneider.”
