Cost increases by 129% Procurement of 820 railways bogies wagons and 230 passenger coaches

Cost of Pakistan Railways ongoing project namely procurement/manufacturing of 820 railway bogie wagons and 230 passenger coaches has increased by as much as 129 percent.

The project was reported to have been discussed by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) and approved for its continued implementation at the enhanced cost of Rs 71 billion.

The project was initially approved by the ECNEC way back in November 2017 for its implementation at an estimated cost of Rs 3194.000 without any foreign aid.

Without securing prior approval by the competent authority, the Railways had incurred Rs 37581.581 million on the project implementation which was negatively more than Rs 6357.581 million than the already approved cost.
