Comprehensive plan chalked out to provide electricity to Special Economic Zones throughout the country

Power Division of the Federal Government has chalked out a comprehensive plan to provide electricity to all the Special Economic Zones (SEZs) being established in different parts of the country.
According to the information available to EP from official sources, “Supply of Electricity to Special Economic Zones” project is estimated to cost Rs 19909.285 million with no foreign aid. An allocation of Rs 1210.000 million has been made in the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for 2019-20 for starting its implementation during just started new financial year 2019-20.
The project implementation is most likely to commence within next couple of months after it is considered and Okayed by the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) and the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on priority basis.
As many as 9 Special Economic Zones are in being established under overall umbrella of great game changer China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) for boosting industrialization and create larger number of employment opportunities for both skilled and unskilled workers of the respective areas through accelerated economic activities.
These SEZs are Rashakai Economic ZoneM-1 Nowshehra, Special Economic Zone Dhabeji, Bostan Industrial Zone in Balochistan, Allama Iqbal Industrial City Faisalabad, Development of Industrial Park on Pakistan Steel Mill s land at Port Qasim near Karachi, Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Model Industrial Zone in Islamabad, Special Economic Zone at Mirpur Azad Kashmir, Mohmand Marble City and Magpondas Special Economic Zone in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Presently, work is in progress in all these SEZs and is at various stages for making these Special Economic Zones functional at the earliest possible.
Needless to mention here that the Federal Government as well as the Provincial Governments of the Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pukhtoonkhwah and Balochistan are attaching due importance and priority to all projects and activities under the overall comprehensive project CPEC to ensure all these projects are completed within the stipulated period.
