The senior leadership of the business community of Karachi has urged the government to rebuild the shabby infrastructure of Karachi through National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the Frontier Works Organization (FWO).
Siraj Kassam Teli Chairman of Businessmen Group (BMG), and former president of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) said that the federal and provincial government must give their go ahead and release funds for rebuilding Karachi through NDMA and FWO. He said that the relevant departments in the provincial setup did not have the capacity or the capability but, fortunately, the NDMA and the FWO has the required capacity, machinery, workforce and the expertise, to instantly start work on Karachi’s infrastructure development.
BMG General-Secretary A Q Khalil said this city had largely been ignored during the last 20 to 25 years and city’s infrastructure had been on the verge of collapse unless action is taken immediately.
KCCI President Agha Shahab Ahmed Khan while commenting on the matter said. “Karachi city’s population has been rapidly growing and the city is also under intense pressure because of substantial influx of people from all over the country. This city needs special and preferential treatment from both the federal and provincial governments,”
