DECON-MAWAZEEN JV Signs Contract for Geo-technical Investigation with TAPI

Firm DECON International Pvt. Ltd., in joint venture with Al Mawazeen Soil Testing signed a Contract with TAPI Pipeline Company Limited for Geo-technical Investigation of TAPI Gas Pipeline Project Pakistan Portion.  The length of the gas pipeline for Pakistan portion is approximately 824 km. It is a great achievement by Firm Decon as TAPI, by all standards, is a project of great international repute. Firm Decon, due to its professional competence, is now enjoying the confidence of international players as it has also worked on Iran Pakistan gas pipeline project before this.

The TAPI Project aims to export up to 33 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually for 30-year period through an 1814 km pipeline from Turkmenistan to Afghanistan, Pakistan and India. The implementation of the TAPI Project is divided into three main phases:

  1. Natural Gas Source Development;
  2. Turkmenistan Portion of TAPI Project; and
  3. Afghanistan and Pakistan portion of the TAPI Project.

TPCL will act as the employer in relation to the construction works, as well as the owner of the Afghanistan and Pakistan portion of the TAPI Project. DECON-MAWAZEEN JV is responsible for Geo-technical investigation of Pakistan portion. The scope of work comprises of:

  1. Geo technical Investigations, including:
    • Drilling of boreholes (2970m), upto a maximum depth of 30m, by Straight Rotary Method.
    • Excavation of Test Pits along pipeline route.
    • Field and Laboratory Testing
  2. Electrical Resistivity Survey

Geo-Technical Investigation of Iran-Pakistan Gas Pipe Line (800 km long) was one project in which logistics was of paramount importance in execution, the terrain of this project comprised desert, hills, marshy land and plain areas from Iran Pakistan border near Jiwani along the Makran coast to the city of Nawabshah. This project was completed by deploying nine drilling rigs simultaneously for about four months.
