Mr. Jawed Zaman, CEO,A to Zee Switchgear talks to Engineering Post
A to Zee Switchgear, a prominent Pakistani manufacturer of electrical panels and switchgear, is strategically expanding its global footprint with the inauguration of its new office in Dubai’s Maidan Freezone. This move, spearheaded by CEO Mr. Jawed Zaman Khan, is set to significantly enhance the company’s international operations while simultaneously bolstering its service to the domestic Pakistani market.
During an exclusive conversation with Engineering Post Mr. Jawed Zaman Khan highlighted the multifaceted benefits this new Dubai base, baptized as “A to Zee Electrical International”, brings to the market. “The Dubai office is fundamentally beneficial for our international business strategy,” he said. He emphasized its crucial role in facilitating smoother and more reliable transactions with clients across diverse and often challenging markets. “When doing business in other countries including Afghanistan, Nigeria, and across the Middle East, the Dubai office is much more reliable for getting payments and dealing with the clientele.” This hub will centralize the handling of all exports and imports for these regions, streamlining logistics and financial operations.
A key operational advantage lies in A to Zee’s established manufacturing strength in Pakistan. The company will leverage this capability to supply the Dubai market efficiently. “We make each and every part of our panel mechanically,” Jawed Zaman explained. “We will provide it to Dubai in CKD (Completely Knocked Down) form.” This approach allows for cost-effective shipping and potential local assembly or value addition in the UAE, while maintaining strict quality control from the source.
The benefits extend beyond international borders. Mr. Jawed Zaman pointed out, “This office will also be beneficial for the clients in Pakistan.” The enhanced logistical network and international presence are expected to improve service levels and potentially open new avenues for Pakistani clients through the Dubai connection.
A to Zee’s reputation in Pakistan is built on a strong foundation of technical expertise and execution capability on major infrastructure projects. The company is currently involved in prestigious developments including Emaar Tower, Gwadar Airport, Paragon Tower, and DHA 9. Mr. Jawed Zaman attributes their success partly to consistent availability: “A plus point of working with A to Zee is availability of stock.” Furthermore, he asserts, “Technically the company is very strong,” a claim backed by successful collaborations with telecom giants like Mobilink and PTCL. “Consultants like our products due to the quality,” Mr. Jawed Zaman noted, adding that “the design of our product has helped us become a brand.”
Looking ahead, A to Zee Switchgear is firmly focused on expansion and technological advancement. “In coming days we are planning for extension,” Mr. Jawed Zaman confirmed. The company has significantly invested in its capabilities, particularly in medium voltage switchgear. “We have gained a lot of proficiency in medium voltage,” he stated, highlighting a critical competitive edge: “Our company has all the testing equipment required for MV panels. No other company in Karachi has that equipment.”
This commitment to growth includes substantial infrastructure investment. “Moving forward, in addition to the manufacturing facility we have also procured new machinery. We will move all the electrical and mechanical machinery to our Port Qasim facility,” Mr. Jawed Zaman announced. This consolidation at Port Qasim is expected to optimize production. Additionally, diversification is on the agenda: “We will also start production of Busways very soon,” signaling entry into a new product segment to meet evolving market demands.
