NESPAK is a product of the national renaissance of the early 1970s in Pakistan. The idea was to attain self-reliance in engineering consultancy at national level and to reduce dependence on foreign consulting firms by developing an indigenous talent pool, which culminated in the creation of a private limited company in 1973, aptly named as the “National Engineering Services Pakistan (Pvt) Limited”. A small group of experts in various engineering disciplines were handpicked primarily from WAPDA and Irrigation & Power Departments to run NESPAK.
Undertaking projects of such large magnitude as the Left Bank Irrigation Tunnel at Tarbela Dam, Port Qasim and Karachi Steel Mills right at the outset was no mean challenge for an organization in its infancy. It was due to the commitment and dedication of the founding members that such projects were successfully commissioned on schedule, contributing significantly to the burgeoning national economy. With this magnificent head start, the company soon expanded rapidly to accommodate the substantial business, which has kept pouring in since then, and by now, NESPAK has rendered services for 3,400 projects with a cumulative cost of Rs. 2,500 billion (US $ 335 billion) up to December 31, 2022.
Within an year of inception, NESPAK had entered the international arena by winning projects in Africa. After that there was no looking back; by now the company has provided, or is providing, consultancy services for 540 projects in 39 countries. Today foreign business accounts for nearly 20% of NESPAK’s total earnings.
The greatest advantage NESPAK has over many other national and international consulting firms is that it can provide services in almost every field of engineering and economic development including water resources, agriculture, energy, transportation, communications, SCADA, environment, water supply and sanitation, architecture, urban planning, industry, oil & gas, IT and GIS under one roof. The nature of services ranges from conceiving a project, carrying out master planning, pre-feasibility, feasibility and planning studies, preparing designs, tender documentation, management consultancy, construction supervision, contract management, preparing operation and maintenance manuals and specialized services for periodic inspection of engineering works.
NESPAK has always laid emphasis on continuous upgradation of the technological aids. The company therefore entered the Information Technology age quite early and today it stands fully IT-enabled. Moreover, we were the first engineering consultants to achieve ISO 9001 certificate in the year 1998. Presently, NESPAK possesses the certifications of all the three standards including ISO 14001:2015 & 45001:2018. Now these three certifications together, have put our ISO Quality Management System fully upgraded.
NESPAK is also not lagging behind in making efforts for research and development. The Research and Development Cell at NESPAK is progressing swiftly with its basic agenda of developing work procedures, guidelines and manuals through all working Divisions and Offices. NESPAK vision for future is based on constant growth and development to meet the challenges of the rapidly changing world and its environment in step with the requirements of the times.
