37th Annual General Meeting of IEEEP Pakistan Shamsul Mulk appreciates energy policy

The government has undertaken steps to mitigate the ongoing energy crisis completing many power generation projects on fast-track. The Power Policy of 2013 promulgated by the present government is the first ever effort and lays down the foundation for today’s healthy power sector. These views were shared by ex-Chairman Wapda Shamsul Mulk, while addressing 37th Annual General Meeting of the Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Pakistan (IEEEP) at a local hotel attended by all the fellows, corporate members, eminent engineers representing public sector organizations corporate sector.

This Power Policy, he said, being an integrated document, caters for improvement in generation capacity, improved fuel mix, reduced transmission losses and efficient distribution infrastructure.

Former chairman also stressed upon the need to conserve energy at least up to 1000 MW through power conservation measures and energy efficiency devices. The engineers must equip themselves with the latest technical knowledge to join the ranks of the first world. He said that professionals have to be given its place in governance and management of the country to gear-up the pace of economic development, he added.

The IEEEP Honourary Secretary General presented his annual report in which he highlighted the activities of the IEEEP such as holding of Symposiums, Seminars, Workshops, Lectures, and Publication of Research Journal “New Horizons”. He said that the ongoing energy crisis is calling us to go for solar energy for bridging the demand supply gap. Therefore, Institution needs to disseminate latest technical knowledge about renewable technologies like solar, wind and biomass etc. Our journal “New Horizons” and the up-coming seminars should focus on latest trends in the cited above renewable technologies

IEEEP Award of Excellence in recognition of marvelous performance were given to nine eminent engineers including Saniya Awais Managing Director PPDB, Engr Rana Wajahat Saeed Rana DMD NTDC, Engr Dr Rana Abdul Jabbar Khan Former CEO IESCO, Engr Gulraiz Akhtar Mughal GM P&CM NTDC, Engr Muhammad Ishaq GM GSC NTDC, Engr Rao Muhammad Afzal Khan GM NTDC, Engr Mujahid Islam Billa CEO FESCO etc. in the fields of Power Development through fast track projects, Power Evacuation Developing more sustainable system through network with improved reliability, Net Metering and Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), Power System Project Management & Efficient Evacuation, Efficient Power Evacuation from Jhimpir Wind Power Project, Efficient Power Evacuation from Neelum Jhelum, Best Software Development & lOTs for the year 2016-17, Artificial Intelligence & UMVs, year Best Performance in utilities in the fields of Losses Recovery/Mobile Reading respectively. In the AGM the matters relating to the budget, balance sheet and other administrative issues were discussed in detail and approved.
