Independent Power Producers (IPPs) have been in the limelight in the media recently . Concept of IPPs was introduced around mid-1990s for overcoming the energy shortage .
There were as many as 37 IPPs in operation in the country operating on hydel and thermal sources as of June 30, 2018 according to the information available from official sources.
