KP Govt-CEEC sign MoU

KP government has signed a MoU with China Energy and Engineering Corporation (CEEC) – a Chinese state owned energy conglomerate intending to secure uninterrupted electric power using short-term electricity supply, to establish a 225MW Combined Cycle Gas Turbine for Hattar Special Economic Zone (HSEZ) to be established by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Economic Zones Development & Management Company (KPEZDMC). 

According to statement issued by the KPEZDMC, the project will focus on using indigenous gas resources under a Government to Government framework as envisaged in the Government of Pakistan Power Policy, 2015. This thermal power project will be the first of its kind in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The power produced from the project will be used on priority basis for the Industrial Estates and Special Economic Zones in the province. Construction of the power plant start right away and by August 2017, the power plant will start producing electricity. 

This recent initiative by KP government is a promising step and a game changer in addressing the woes of energy crisis. This MoU between the KP government and the Chinese energy conglomerate is an important milestone in ensuring that the energy issues of the province are resolved and industrialization is facilitated through provision of uninterrupted supply of electricity for a smooth functioning of industries
