University of engineering and technology (UET) Lahore has become the first
university in Pakistan to produce energy through solar power. The university will be able to get annual benefit of PKR 170 million due to savings in electricity cost.
The project was initiated by Punjab energy department. This initiative is a part of the government’s vision of providing clean and green energy to the universities.MoUs have been signed to shift 11 universities of Punjab to solar to help save electricity cost as well as the environment.
The government plans to solarise all universities in Punjab which would produce 60 MW of electricity and provide savings of PKR 1.03 Billion annual and PKR 25.66 Billion in the next 25 years.
