WAPDA constructing 8 mega projects

WAPDA is constructing 8 multi-purpose  mega projects including Diamir Basha Dam, Mohmand Dam, Dasu Hydropower Project, Tarbela  4th and 5th  Extension, Hydro Power projects  Golen  Gol Hydro Power project among others.

These are scheduled to be completed one after the other from 2024 to 2029, adding 97 million acre feet  (MAF) to the gross water  storage of the  country and about 10000 mega wat (MW) clean, green and low cost  hydel electricity to the national grid.

Dasu  Hydropower Project  (2160 MW) is being implemented in a  phased manner at a total estimated cost of Rs 510980.200 million including foreign aid of Rs 218547.500 million. According to the WAPDA sources, an estimated amount of Rs 176493.426 million had been spent till end June 2022 and an estimated amount of R s 55383.000 million including foreign of Rs 3000.000 was being utilized for its continued implementation during  financial year 2022-23. It was approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council  (ECNEC)in March 2014.

 Tarbela 4th Extension  Hydro Power project (1410 MW)  was being  executed in a phased manner at an estimated cost of Rs 122977.000 including foreign aid of Rs  81642.000 million. Toward of last financial year total expenditure of Rs 117198.629 million had been incurred on its implementation  and another amount of Rs 1940.00 was being incurred on the mega project during current fiscal. It was approved by ECNEC in January 2020.

Tarbela 5th Extension Hydro Power project (1410 MW) was being executed at a total estimated cost of Rs  82361.600 million including  foreign aid of Rs  35988.000 million. Till end June 2022 total expenditure off Rs  20162. 280 million had been incurred on its implementation and another Rs 12000 million were being utilised on its execution during fiscal 2022-23. it was okayed by ECNEC  in December 2016.
