Three mega projects approved for 15 billion rupees

The representatives from Central Developmental Working Party (CDWP) had a meeting with Dr Muhammad Jahanzeb, the chairman planning commission at the P- block secretariat. Three new development projects were approved by the CDWP for further work and discussion. These projects were approved at a total cost of Rs15.29 billion.

The projects that were approved included Torkham Jalalabad road 2nd carriageway, construction of 132KV grid station at bin Qasim industrial park Karachi and upgradation and betterment of sewage and drainage systems for WASA Multan. A total of 7 projects were discussed upon during the meeting.

The Torkham Jalalabad road 2nd carriageway Afghanistan project is being worked upon as a means to interlink the country with other Central Asian countries. It is being funded by Pakistan government to assist Afghanistan in construction and reparations of roadways, highway that connects Torkham with Jalalabad. Approximately 10 billion rupees is said to be the cost of this project. 132KV grid station at Bin Qasim industrial park will be constructed at a cost of 3.601 billion rupees to provided good quality uninterrupted power supply to SEZs at Bin Qasim park. The sewage and water system improvement project for WASA Multan will cost approximately 1 billion dollar and will help ameliorate the water and sanitation facilities in the city. Additional secretary, Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, secretary Ministry of Water Resources, chairman National Highways Authority (NHA), Members Planning Commission and other key stakeholders were present at the meeting.
